The canine unit is also routinely used for narcotic detections and tracking. When the canine unit is not working, it’s training.

Bike Patrol
The bike patrol was initiated as part of our patrol division several years ago. Since that time, we have had several officers trained in bicycle patrol tactics. Initially we planned on implementing bike patrol as full time endeavor, but due to man power constraints, we were not able to do so. When manpower allows, we use bike patrol as a community policing tool which is also great for public relations. Our community’s response to the bike patrol has been very positive.

D. A. R. E.
D.A.R.EThe D.A.R.E. division, comprised of three certified D.A.R.E. officers, teaches in four schools in the Hondo Independent School District. This program also sponsors community-wide activities and events throughout the year.
